2026: 80 Years of Building Community
We are celebrating a community of passionate volunteers from all over the world who’ve taken on the mission of advancing technology to better serve the world.
A Message from the President
For 80 years, the IEEE Computer Society has brought the computing community together.
Volunteers and staff have worked side-by-side to empower professionals with publications, international conferences, local events, standards, and other programs that promote technological advancement.
This anniversary celebrates the achievements of our members, volunteers, and the broader community.
From the launch of IEEE Transactions on Computers in 1951 to our newest periodical, the fully open access journal, IEEE Transactions on Privacy in 2024.
The 1973 IEEE International Computer Society Conference (ComCon) in San Francisco, California, was declared the most successful computing conference in its day, with 700+ attendees and prestigious keynotes from Dr. Sidney Fernbach and Dr. Ruth Davis. We take the leap to SC24 in Atlanta, Georgia that welcomed over 18,000 high performance computing professionals, and CVPR 2025 in Nashville, Tennessee, that drew over 9,000 computer vision professionals; accomplishing the #1 rank on Google Scholar for AI research.
Our vision to lead in technical information, community service, and personalized services to the world’s computing professionals continues today through humanitarian initiatives such as the CS Juniors program, the Emerging Technology Fund, and the Broadening Participation Fund, among others.
As the Computer Society President, I extend my sincere thanks for your continuing engagement and your support of our global community and our profession.
Sincerely,
Grace Lewis
