IEEE Day, celebrated on the first Tuesday in October each year, marks the contributions and achievements made by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) to technology and engineering.
In this article, you’ll learn about the history of IEEE Day, reasons to highlight this in your local community, examples of how to get involved, and how the IEEE Computer Society impacts technology.
History of IEEE Day
IEEE Day was officially inaugurated in 2010, marking the anniversary of the founding of IEEE in 1884. It’s a day when IEEE members and volunteers worldwide join to celebrate the organization’s contributions to technology and society. The date coincides with when the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) and the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE) merged to form IEEE, uniting various electrical and electronics engineering branches under one organization.
