Keynotes Announced for CVPR 2024

General Keynotes Explore R&D in Deep Learning, Human Creativity and AI, and Artificial Biodiversity; Expo Track Keynotes Feature Experts from Amazon Web Services, Getty Images, and Microsoft Research

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., 10 June2024 – Today, the Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) Conference Program Committee announced keynote speakers for this year’s event, including leaders from prominent academic institutions and advanced corporate research programs. Taking place 17-21 June at the Seattle Convention Center in Seattle, Wash., U.S.A., CVPR 2024 will feature both General and Expo Track Keynotes to ensure a well-rounded program that explores the latest developments in computer vision, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), augmented, virtual and mixed reality (AR/VR/MR), deep learning, and related areas from academic, applied, and business R&D perspectives.

“Computer vision is rapidly advancing thanks to work in both industry and academia,” said David Crandall, Professor of Computer Science at Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind., U.S.A., and CVPR 2024 Program Co-Chair. “We felt our keynote agenda needed to address both the fundamental research work shaping what’s next in computer vision, as well as how it is being applied today, so we structured two separate keynote tracks.”

Co-sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society (CS) and the Computer Vision Foundation (CVF), CVPR will feature the following experts in general keynote sessions:

      • Josh Bongard, Veinott Professor of Computer Science, University of Vermont, U.S.A and Director, Morphology, Evolution & Cognition Laboratory, who will showcase autonomous technologies whose internal physical changes pre-train them to handle external change like new tasks or adversarial attacks, offering possibilities for safer AI. (19 June at 2:45 p.m. PDT)
      • David Baker, Director, Institute for Protein Design, Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator, and Professor of Biochemistry, Adjunct Professor of Genome Sciences, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, and Physics, University of Washington, U.S.A., who will discuss advances in protein design that address current-day problems not faced during evolution. (20 June at 2:45 p.m. PDT).
      • Sofia Crespo, Artist, who will share her artistic practice and creative journey, focusing on the use of generative systems, and particularly neural networks, as a means to explore speculative lifeforms. (21 June at 2:45 p.m. PDT)

In addition, industry leaders from prominent companies will speak on current applications in the Expo Keynotes:

      • Swami Sivasubramanian, Vice President, AI & Data, Amazon Web Services, who will share the latest insights on how Amazon is leveraging the power of AI and data to solve urgent needs through the newest Amazon engines, managed services, and applications. (19 June at 1:15 p.m. PDT)
      • Andrea Gagliano, Senior Director, AI/ML, Getty Images, who will explore the dynamic symbiotic relationship between artificial intelligence and human creativity and how AI models can generate more authentic and culturally relevant visual content that is better reflective of modern society. (20 June at 10:30 a.m. PDT)
      • Ece Kamar, Managing Director, AI Frontiers Lab, Microsoft Research, who will share research directions Microsoft is pursuing to make future AI systems more efficient, sustainable, controllable, and valuable through innovations in model training, agent technologies, and engineering practices (21 June at 9 a.m. PDT)

“As the field’s leading event, CVPR strives to present both exciting work from core computer vision, as well as ideas from other fields that we might learn from,” summed up Crandall. “Through keynote sessions on diverse topics including the power of AI and data, protein design, embodiment and deep learning, artificial biodiversity, AI for art, and more, CVPR will help give insight into where we are now and where the field will go in the future.”
