New Technology Provides Fast, Wireless Military Communication

DARPA is reportedly developing a 100 Gbps wireless technology able to transmit up to 120 miles. The 100 Gb/s RF Backbone or 100G is expected to provide the US military with a wireless network roughly 500 times faster than existing wireless technology. Its transmission capabilities would be akin to fiber-optic network connectivity. Little is known about the existing military communications system, but Common Data Link is thought to transmit at a maximum speed of 250 Mbps. The DARPA system is expected to use the Ku band.
