Alfredo Benso is an Associate Professor in Computer Engineering at Politecnico di Torino, Italy, where he teaches operating systems, hypermedia-design, and fundamentals of computer science. He is vice chair of the PhD Programs Advisory Board. He has a PhD in computer engineering, and since 2008 he is Adjunct Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago.  He had teaching and research positions at the  University of California San Diego and University of Texas  at Austin. His research interests focus  on Systems and  Computational Biology. He scientifically collaborates with universities and industry on a worldwide basis. He has  been involved in several Computer Society–sponsored conferences. Benso is a Senior Member of IEEE. He received from  the CS three Outstanding Contribution Awards, a Continuing Service  Award, and a Golden  Core Award. Since 2003 he has been a volunteer in several CS committees focusing on Conferences (TMRC, T&C), Technical Committees (TAB), Products and Services (EPSB, EPSC), and,  more recently, publications (DLOC). He has also been a member of the IEEE Information Technology Strategy Committee (ITSC). He has a wife from Austin, Texas, and two young children.
