Mitigating Societal Harms ResourcesMitigating Societal Harms ResourcesDisinformation and misinformation are problems societies have faced long before the invention of the internet and social media. However, the power of “going viral” on social media has enabled misinformation to spread at a speed we have never before seen.

It is the impact of the fast-paced development of computing technologies that prompted the IEEE Computer Society to bring together researchers, experts, and policymakers to discuss approaches to these critical problems in its tech forum, Mitigating Societal Harms in a Social Media World held September 2021.

Many during the tech forum requested access to the resources addressed by our speakers. We’ve worked together to make these resources available to all. Be sure to check back in the next few months for more content on the important issues addressed, including hate speech, radicalization, misinformation, and disinformation. We will continue to add resources periodically, so we ask you to bookmark this page and check in regularly for updates.
