The IEEE CS 75th Anniversary Celebrations Continue!

It's not too late to join in! Exciting activities are taking place all year long

As many of our enthusiastic members are aware, this special year marks the 75th Anniversary of the Computer Society!

To commemorate this momentous milestone, a slate of exciting and interactive activities began in January and will continue throughout the year. These activities integrate the rich history of the Computer Society and highlight the accomplishments of its members and the innovations they help to create, with the vision and resources that will inspire the future.

Highlights of the Celebration include:

IEEE Computer Society Trivia Contest

Let’s test your Computer Society knowledge! Start competing in the Computer Society’s year-long trivia contest spotlights interesting facts and trivia of the Computer Society and the computing field.  Contest winners are announced monthly!

Congratulations to this month’s Trivia Contest Winner, Nayza Thasneem!

  • May Contest Winner: Nayza Thasneem
  • April Contest Winner: Keerthana AJ
  • March Contest Winner: Alna Maria Ben
  • February Contest Winner: Rishna CP
  • January Contest Winner: Sra Ku

IEEE CS Global Student Challenge (IEEE CS GSC)

The Global Student Challenge provides a platform for students from all over the world to create innovative solutions to big data problems.  For this year’s competition, each student OR team (max three students) is required to present a solution to a pre-determined problem/issue statement. This year two challenge problems are being posed, both on topics of relevance today — one on analyzing sentiments in tweets related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the second on analyzing computer system usage and failure data from a university’s central computing system. Register yourself, or your team, today!

Student Branch Chapters Video Competition

The IEEE student branch chapters were challenged with creating videos that highlight the past, present, and future of technology. These videos demonstrate how technology has or will change society, change civilization, improve lives, solve problems, and impact the future.  So who will the winner be? That’s for you to decide! The video with the most likes, shares, and comments on YouTube will be selected. Take a look at the videos and decide which is your favorite before 1 April 2021. (Videos are listed in alphabetical order according to the video title.)

More Anniversary Programs to Come

Some of the anniversary programs planned include IEEE CS Volunteers Week taking place this month, an essay contest for members, special articles in CS publications, and featured panels at select CS events and conferences.

Over the course of the year, details about new competitions and resources will continue to be released.
