International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage, and Analysis Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary 11-16 November 2018 in Dallas, Texas

The International Conference for High Performance Computing, Network Storage, and Analysis (SC) will be celebrating its 30th anniversary on 11-16 November 2018 in Dallas, Texas, featuring leading exhibits that are consistently ranked as one of the top five reasons attendees give for coming to the conference.

Among the featured events will be recognition awards for exhibitors who tell their tales of making supercomputing history using material artifacts, photos, and video in their booths. A video will be shown at the keynote presentation featuring highlights from the past 30 years, contributed by HPC professionals from academia, industry, and government. The Lobby Museum will also highlight conference history and display both physical and digital artifacts from all 29 previous SC conference years.

The 2018 conference, which highlights supercomputing, is often abbreviated in media as SC18.

Among featured speakers is Margaret Martonosi, the Hugh Trumbull Adams ’35 Professor of Computer Science at Princeton University, where she has been on the faculty since 1994. She is also Director of Princeton University’s Keller Center for Innovation in Engineering Education.

Martonosi will speak November 13 about “What Is the Role of Architecture and Software Researchers in Making Quantum Computing Practical?” Martonosi is also the Computer Society’s 2018 Technical Achievement Award Recipient for her contributions to power-aware computing and energy-constrained mobile sensor networks.

The King Abdullah University of Science and Technology’s Extreme Computing Research Center (ECRC) in Saudi Arabia was featured at SC17 in Denver, Colorado.

This year’s conference will feature a record number of 213 exhibitors, so far. Furthermore, first-time exhibitors are at a record pace to break previous records.  Never short on content, there will also be 27 cutting-edge exhibitor forum sessions.

Christy Adkinson, SC18 exhibits chair who also leads global supercomputer firm Cray Inc., says the new Start-up Pavilion already has ten participating companies and should be an exciting addition.  It also features companies still in their early stage.

“We are thrilled with the community response for exhibiting at SC18,” says Adkinson. “Both attendees and exhibitors recognize that SC is the place to be if you are involved in the HPC community.”

Cray Inc. won four awards from the editors and readers of HPCwire at the 2017 Supercomputing Conference in Denver, Colorado.

At SC 2017 in Denver, Colorado, Wu Feng, co-founder of Green500, talks about the challenges to reach exascale through energy efficient super computing, with massive parallel processing. Feng is professor and Turner Fellow of Computer Science at Virginia Tech.
