Join Fred Douglis and Erik Jan Marinissen, members of the IEEE Computer Society Board of Governors.

To showcase the immense combined technical expertise and innovation power of its membership, the IEEE Computer Society will, on the occasion of its 75th anniversary in 2021, be launching a new program to recognize its members with the most technical accomplishments.

The Distinguished Contributor Recognition Program intends to complement the current IEEE member ranks of Senior Member and Fellow. This program will recognize accomplishments that are beyond the threshold of IEEE Senior Member status but do not necessarily meet the level of IEEE Fellow. All Computer Society members – even Affiliate members who only hold Computer Society membership and not IEEE membership – will be eligible for this recognition. Technical accomplishments that would collectively meet the minimum threshold for consideration might include accomplishments such as “test-of-time” awards, highly cited papers, and/or standards development, to name a few.

Fred Douglis and Erik Jan Marinissen, two of the architects of this new program for which the initiative came out of the IEEE Computer Society’s Board of Governors, will be reviewing the eligibility requirements, how to apply, the deadline to apply, what the recognition exactly entails, and everything in between.

Fred Douglis
Chief Research Scientist
Perspecta Labs

 

Fred Douglis is a Chief Research Scientist at Perspecta Labs, where he works on applied research in areas including high-performance computing and edge computing. He holds a Ph.D. in computer science from U.C. Berkeley. He has been a member of the IEEE Computer Society Board of Governors since 2016 and a fellow of the IEEE since 2017. He has volunteered with IEEE-CS since 1993 and was named a member of the Golden Core in 2012. He served as EIC of IEEE Internet Computing from 2007-2010 and has been on its editorial board since 1999. He has also served on the editorial boards of IEEE Transactions on Computers, IEEE Transactions on Cloud Computing, and ACM Transactions on Storage. He formed the IEEE-CS Technical Committee on the Internet (TCI), chairing it from 1997-2000, and received the inaugural TCI Distinguished Service award in 2019. He previously chaired the TC on Operating Systems from 1996-1998.

 

Erik Jan Marinissen

Erik Jan Marinissen is scientific director at imec in Leuven, Belgium, responsible for research on test and design-for-test, covering 3D-ICs, silicon photonics, sub-10nmm CMOS, and STT-MRAMs. He is also visiting researcher at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), the Netherlands. Previously, he worked at NXP Semiconductors and Philips Research. Marinissen holds an MSc degree in computing science (1990) and a PDEng degree in software technology (1992), both from TU/e. He is (co-)author of 275+ journal and conference papers and (co-)inventor of 18 patents. In 2005, Marinissen received the CS Golden Core recognition for volunteer service in standardization, conference organization, and on editorial boards of journals. He serves as elected member of the IEEE Computer Society’s Board of Governors since 2019. Marinissen was elevated to IEEE Fellow in 2011 “for contributions to modular testing of core-based system chips”. He is recipient of numerous awards, including two ‘test-of-time’ awards from ITC 2008 and 2010.
