CLOSED Call for Papers: Special Issue on Smart Cities: Requirements for Security, Privacy, and Trust in Internet of Things

Submission Deadline: CLOSED

Publication: November/December 2020

Technology is changing the world at a fast and massive scale, transforming society and the economy. The Internet of Things (IoT) will expedite this pace by hyper-connecting people, organizations, and data with billions of objects. The physical things connect to other physical and virtual things, using wireless communication and offering contextual services. IoT is based on a global infrastructure network that connects uniquely identified objects, by exploiting the data captured by the sensors and actuators, and the equipment used for communication and localization. Smart cities will offer intelligent and advanced services to its citizens to improve their quality of life with the help of IoT. Smart cities use IoT devices to gather data and efficiently process it to implement in a particular area. Risks to security, privacy, and trust management may significantly decrease users' confidence in IoT and smart cities and therefore impede its full realization. The topic intends to promote the distribution of the latest methodologies, solutions, and case studies pertaining to security and privacy issues and trust management in IoT and smart cities.

This special issue aims to gather researchers and practitioners to help solve security and privacy issues and trust management in order to achieve trust in, acceptance of, and integration of security and privacy-preserving mechanisms in IoT and smart cities. It will provide ideas and ample opportunity related to developing comprehensive architecture. Topics include:

  • Future strategies for IoT devices within smart cities
  • The latest IoT applications within smart cities
  • Security and privacy for IoT devices within smart cities
  • Traffic monitoring and intrusion detection for IoT devices within smart cities
  • Reverse engineering and automated analysis of IoT malware
  • Mobile service privacy for IoT devices within smart cities
  • Intrusion detection for IoT devices within smart cities
  • Trust management for IoT devices within smart cities
  • End-to-end system security models for IoT devices within smart cities
  • Cryptographic approaches for security and privacy for IoT devices within smart cities
  • Threat and attack model generation for IoT devices within smart cities
  • Firewall, access control, and identity management for IoT devices within smart cities
