The Making of: “The Big 50: Celebrating 50 ACM SIGGRAPH Conferences”

IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications (CG&A) celebrated 50 ACM SIGGRAPH Conferences in the July/August 2023 special issue. Learn more about the editors behind the article and the 'making of' in the exclusive interview below.

In the IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications (CG&A) July/August 2023 issue, we featured a special issue article that compiled personal narratives from researchers and practitioners spanning 50 ACM SIGGRAPH Conferences. This piece celebrated the community-building and defining achievements within the computer graphics conference landscape. As SIGGRAPH commemorates its 50th anniversary with the 51st conference in 2024, we believe it’s fitting to provide some insight into the genesis and evolution of that article.

To this end, we ran an interview with the three editors of last year’s SIGGRAPH special issue article, "The Big 50: Celebrating 50 ACM SIGGRAPH Conferences," including Mary Whitton, Chris Johnson and Dave Kasik, who are also the department editors of CG&A’s Visual Computing: Origins department. In the interview, they reveal interesting and entertaining backgrounds on the creation process and share experiences.
