Kian-Lee Tan

Featured ImageFeatured ImageKian-Lee Tan is a Professor of Computer Science at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He received his BSc Hons (1st Class), MSc, and PhD in computer science from NUS in 1989, 1991, and 1994 respectively. His research interest in database systems focuses on query processing and optimization in a wide range of domains including parallel, distributed and peer-to-peer databases, multimedia (image and video) databases, high-dimensional databases, main memory databases, data streams and sensor networks, spatial-temporal databases, and wireless and mobile databases. Professor Tan has published over 300 research articles in international journals and conference proceedings, and co-authored several books/monographs.

Professor Tan was a recipient of the NUS Outstanding University Researchers Award in 1998, and the NUS Graduate School (NGS) Excellent Mentor Award in 2011. He is also a co-recipient of Singapore's President Science Award in 2011.

Professor Tan is currently the coordinating editor-in-chief of the Very Large Data Base (VLDB) Journal. He also serves in the editorial board of the IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering and the WWW Journal. He is also a member of the VLDB Endowment Board. Professor Tan was the Technical Program Committee co-chair for the 27th International Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE 2011), the 36th International Conference on Very Large Data Bases (VLDB 2010), the 11th International Conference on Database Systems for Advanced Applications (DASFAA 2006), and 3rd International Conference on Mobile Data Management (MDM 2002). Professor Tan is a member of ACM and IEEE (and IEEE CS).
