Deborah M. Cooper

2006 IEEE Computer Society President

Featured ImageFeatured ImageDeborah M. Cooper has actively served the Society for nearly two decades. Her previous service includes the Executive Committee, Board of Governors, Conferences and Tutorial Board, Technical Activities Board, Press Activities Board, Publications Board, Audit Committee, chair of the Technical Committee on Security and Privacy, and numerous other committees. She currently serves as chair of the Computer Society Membership and Intersociety Cooperation committees, vice-chair of the IEEE Conferences committee, and serves on the IEEE Security & Privacy editorial board,. She was a guest editor for IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering and IEEE Software. A Golden Core member of the Computer Society, she is also a member of the IEEE, the ACM, and the American Association of University Women.

In 2006, Cooper was elected to the IEEE Board of Directors as Division V director for 2008–2009.  Cooper is president and founder of an independent consulting firm specializing in computer security and information assurance. Earlier, at Unisys and System Development Corporation, she was Infosec business development director, director of advanced technology, and director of formal methods. Cooper received a BA and an MA, with honors, from the University of California, Los Angeles, where she also completed all but dissertation requirements for a PhD. In 1989, she received the Unisys President's Award for Technical Excellence.
