IEEE Computer Society Announces 2017 Richard E. Merwin Student Scholarship Winners

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., 24 August 2017—Seventeen IEEE Computer Society (IEEE-CS) student members from around the world have been awarded Richard E. Merwin Scholarships, which recognize and reward active student volunteer leaders who show promise in their academic and professional efforts.

The 2017 Richard E. Merwin Scholarship winners represent 13 different universities in Australia, India, Iraq, and the United States. They are:

•    Swathi Nagaraj, Panimalar Institute of Technology, India

•    Abhishek P., College of Engineering Trivandrum, India

•    Gedela Vivek, Amrita Vishwa Viyapeetham University, India

•    Shivam, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad, India

•    Pratik Mangalore, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad, India

•    Victor Sahin, Kennesaw State University, United States

•    Alaa Mustafa Hassan Hassan ,University of Kirkuk, Iraq

•    Pooja Sharma K., S.A. Engineering College, India

•    Arpana Debnath, The National Institute of Engineering, India

•    Rashi Goel, Delhi Technological University, India

•    Kirubakaran Saravanakumar, Panimalar Institute of Technology, India

•    Saksham Saxena, Delhi Technological University, India

•    S Susheel, Jeppiaar Institute of Technology, India

•    Ashka Soni, GH Patel College of Engineering and Technology, India

•    Jithin George, University of Melbourne, Australia

•    Keerti Gautam, Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women, India

The Merwin Scholarship winners are selected twice per year, with September 30 as the next application deadline. The scholarship is open to graduate students and undergraduate students in their final two years, who are IEEE-CS student members enrolled in a program in electrical or computer engineering, computer science, information technology, or a well-defined computer field.

This scholarship was created in honor of the late Richard E. Merwin, past president of IEEE-CS, to recognize and reward student leadership. The selected winners of this award will have the opportunity to serve as IEEE-CS Student Ambassadors for their IEEE region.
