CLOSED Call for Papers: Special Issue on Synthetic Realities and Artificial Intelligence-Generated Contents

This Special Issue is related to Synthetic Realities, i.e., contents created or enabled by Generative Artificial Intelligence Techniques. Much has been changed in Forensics,  Security, and Privacy with the advent and achieved maturity of Generative Artificial Intelligence techniques. The way researchers and experts have been doing forensics and security over the past decades are being continuously challenged with each new version of powerful AI content generators ranging from audio, image, video, to text and their combinations. The synthetic content generated include those created by Generative Textual and Visual Models (ChatGPT, LaMDA, ImageGen, StableDiffusion, etc.), DeepFakes, Spoofing, among others. 

This Special Issue seeks contributions related to discussions on the challenges and opportunities for security, forensics and privacy in the age of synthetic realities or those contents created and enabled by artificial intelligence methods. In particular, we seek to understand possible changes in the way experts operate, how to deal with auto-generated fake and synthetic contents (text, images, videos, 3D), how such auto-generation methods are "shaping" new realities that do not exist and what it means for our society. What are the possible new applications for forensics, security and privacy? What are the threats and challenges? Forensics aspects include any topics related to investigation aspects once an event happens with respect to created contents (e.g., generated fake news or deepfakes and how to detect them). Security aspects include topics related to how our lives might be affected with such contents in terms of documents, authenticity, for instance. Privacy related to aspects related to how these generative AI methods deal with our personal data or other aspects related to data protection frameworks in different regions of the globe. 

As we blur the barriers between reality and fantasy, contributions discussing challenges related to synthetic realities and the metaverse are also welcome.

• AI-generated Spoofing Attacks 
• What's next for AI-generated content and the creation of synthetic realities? 
• New practices for Forensics and Security with the presence of Synthetic Realities 

Submission Guidelines

For author information and submission criteria for full-papers, please visit the Author Information page. As stated there, full papers should be 4900 – 7200 words in length. Please submit full papers through the ScholarOne system, and be sure to select the special-issue name. Manuscripts should not be published or currently submitted for publication elsewhere. There should be no more than 15 references. Related work should appear in a special separated box. Please submit only full papers intended for peer review, not opinion pieces, to the ScholarOne portal.
