By Min Chen on
June 23, 2025

The IEEE Technical Community on Multimedia Computing (TCMC) is dedicated to advancing research and practice in systems that synchronize and process diverse media types—including audio, video, text, and animation—for the effective communication of information. TCMC serves as a key platform for the multimedia computing community, promoting innovation, offering technical guidance on emerging challenges, and supporting professionals through mentorship, recognition, and community engagement.

TCMC offers its members a rich suite of benefits, including:

  • Free membership for IEEE Computer Society members
  • Updates on conferences, special issues, job and funding opportunities, and research trends
  • Recognition through awards such as the Impact Award, Mid-Term Career Award, Rising Star Award, and Service Award
  • Nomination support for prestigious IEEE honors
  • Opportunities to serve in professional roles, including journal editorial boards and multimedia conference leadership
  • Networking and mentoring support, particularly for students and early-career researchers

TCMC sponsors and co-sponsors several leading conferences, including the IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo (ICME), IEEE International Conference on Multimedia Information Processing and Retrieval (MIPR), ACM/IEEE Joint Conference on Digital Libraries (JCDL), and many others across disciplines such as visual languages, AI, bioinformatics, and extended reality.
