
Shawn Blanton holds the position of Joseph F. and Nancy Keithley Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, where he also serves as the department’s Associate Head of Research. His research focuses on the design, test, and diagnosis of integrated systems, conducted in the Advanced Chip Testing Laboratory. He has authored over 200 papers and holds several patents, both issued and pending. His notable achievements include receiving the National Science Foundation Career Award for developing a microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) testing methodology and earning multiple industrial faculty awards from companies such as IBM, Qualcomm, Google, Teradyne, and CISCO. Prof. Blanton is a Fellow of the IEEE and a senior member of the ACM. His (non-technical) awards include the 2006 Emerald Award for leadership in recruiting and mentoring minorities in science and technology, the 2021 College of Engineering Mentoring Award for excellence in mentoring graduate students and junior faculty, the 2022 National Science of Black Engineers Lifetime Achievement in Academia Award for career excellence and leadership, the 2024 Carnegie Mellon Barbara Lazarus Award for mentoring junior faculty and graduate students, and the 2024 Calvin University Distinguished Alumni Award for lifetime service to students.
