Decentralized (Self-Sovereign) Identities & the Trillion Dollar market: Why the Buzz?

What are decentralized (self-sovereign) identities? Why are they interesting and important? Why the buzz? What is the history of their evolution? What are the domains in which they can be useful? What are the various standards activities and organizations involved in the development of this topic? What is the current state of art? What are the research issues that need to be addressed?

This talk will provide an answer to these questions and more. We hope to engage the audience in a dialog and seed collaborative projects.

Private vs. Public Blockchains: Myth vs. Reality. The need for a Quantitative Approach to Blockchain Infrastructure & Application design.

There has been an ongoing religious war between crypto afficionados and those who espouse Enterprise applications of Blockchain or “Distributed Ledger” Technology. We sample the current state of confusion and facts/claims/statements about the relevance of blockchains to the world, and then attempt to formulate a more nuanced and neutral perspective. We argue that it is important and useful to adopt a Quantitative Approach to Blockchain Infrastructure & Application design. We hope to engage the audience in a broader dialog and seed collaborative projects.

Machine Learning & Analytics: Applications in FinTech & Security

We will begin by introducing some of the current trends in FinTech and attempt to seek out what may be “hot”. We will then sample where Machine Learning/Analytics can be (or is being) used in FinTech. We will look at use case scenarios, technology components and the caveats that are appropriate. Specific examples we will consider include Trading/Trade Execution, as well as fraud. We hope to engage the audience in a broader dialog and seed collaborative projects.
