Compsac2019 Call for Participation

Data-Driven Intelligence for a Smarter World

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif, 22 January 2019 – Submission deadlines are approaching for the IEEE Computer Society’s signature conference on Computers, Software and Applications (COMPSAC 2019) taking place July 15-19, 2019 at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.

COMPSAC is a major international forum for academia, industry, and government to discuss research results and advancements, emerging challenges, and future trends in computer and software technologies and applications.

COMPSAC’s theme, Data-Driven Intelligence for a Smarter World, is organized around Symposia (tracks listed below), and Workshops, both of which are currently accepting submissions.

COMPSAC Symposia

• Autonomous Systems

• Computer Architecture & Platforms

• Computer Education and Learning Technologies

• Data Sciences, Analytics & Technologies

• Emerging Advances in Technology & Applications

• Human Computing & Social Computing

• IT in Practice

• Mobile, Wearable & Ubiquitous Computing

• Networks, Communications, Internet & Web Technologies

• Smart & Connected Health

• Security, Privacy & Trust in Computing

• Software Engineering Technologies & Applications

• Smart IoT Systems & Applications

The technical program will include keynote addresses, research papers, industrial case studies, plenary and specialized panels, fast abstracts, a doctoral symposium, poster sessions, and workshops and tutorials on emerging and important topics related to the conference theme.

Highlights of the conference will include plenary and specialized panels to address technical challenges facing technologists who are developing and deploying data-driven intelligent systems and applications. Panels will also address cultural and societal challenges for a society whose members must continue to learn to live, work, and play in the environments produced by the technologies.  Special events will include a focus on Milwaukee’s emerging tech scene and the opportunities it offers to conference attendees and their colleagues.  This year’s annual banquet to be held at the Harley Davidson World Headquarters Museum will feature computing pioneer and technical achievement awardees.

In the era of “big data,” there is an unprecedented increase in the amount of data collected in data warehouses. Advances in big data-related technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), are increasing rapidly. But despite perceived benefits of these technologies and methodologies, there are many challenges ahead. What will be the social, cultural, and economic challenges arising from these developments? What are the technical issues related, for example, to the privacy and security of data used by AI/ML systems? How might humans interact with, rely on, or even trust AI predictions or decisions emanating from these technologies? How can we prevent such data-driven intelligence from being used to make malicious decisions?
