IEEE-CS and UMass MoU

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., 11 September 2017 - IEEE Computer Society (IEEE-CS) and the University of Massachusetts Amherst Global (UMass Amherst Global) are teaming to develop and support the growth of scientific expertise and talent of Chinese students in the electrical and computer engineering industry. In particular, they will co-promote their respective academic offerings in support of electrical and computer engineering fields.

Some activities may include, but are not limited to:

  • IEEE-CS to promote the UMass Amherst Masters of Science in the Electrical and Computer Engineering (MS ECE Field) degree to its membership network through social media, student media, and student branches
  • UMass Amherst Global to offer an exclusive student scholarship value of $5,000 for IEEE student members towards their MS ECE Field degree
  • UMass Amherst Global to fund a campaign for up to five “IEEE China Grants” worth $5000 towards the inaugural cohort outside IEEE current membership.

Both organizations will define future educational needs and create related material for their shared membership and students. IEEE-CS and UMass Amherst Global will also benefit from each other’s strong brand recognition and joint marketing campaigns.

Andy Chen, IEEE-CS Vice President of Professional and Educational Activities Board, recognized the Asia Pacific region as one of the key areas for IEEE-CS’s worldwide expansion. “IEEE-CS is very pleased to welcome UMass Amherst Global to join our global partnership program,” said Chen.  “We appreciate the noticeable increase of student membership in Asia-Pacific (APAC) region in recent years; particularly in China,” said Chen. “Together we seek to develop and support the scientific expertise and talent of our student members in the electrical and computer engineering industry in the APAC region.”

"We are proud to partner with IEEE-CS, an organization that shares our passion for advancing the field of computer engineering across borders and cultures,” said Alex Phillips, Managing Director of UMass Amherst Global. “We are excited to launch our innovative, live-lecture learning model, and to share the inaugural MS in Electrical & Computer Engineering with to the IEEE community."
