CCF-IEEE CS Young Computer Scientist Award Presented to Three Scholars at CNCC 2016 in Taiyuan, China

Los Alamitos, Calif., 08 November, 2016 — The China Computer Federation (CCF) and IEEE Computer Society (IEEE-CS) jointly presented the CCF-IEEE CS Young Computer Scientist Award to Minling Zhang, professor at Southeast University; Gang Pan, professor at Zhejiang University; and Kaiqi Huang, professor at Institute of Automation, CAS, at the China National Computer Congress (CNCC) 2016, held in Taiyuan, China.

Minling Zhang, professor at Southeast University, was recognized for contributions to machine learning and data mining.

Gang Pan, professor at Zhejiang University, was recognized for contributions to applications of pattern recognition technology to user perception and human-computer interactions.

Kaiqi Huang, professor at Institute of Automation, CAS, was recognized for contributions to computer vision and its applications.

The CCF-IEEE CS Young Computer Scientist Award was developed for young scholars under 40 years of age who have achieved significant results and contributions in scientific research. Established by CCF in 2010, the 2016 award was jointly assessed and awarded by CCF and IEEE-CS.

“The first CCF-IEEE CS award is an excellent representation of the strong partnership we have developed with the CCF, “said Angela Burgess, Executive Director, IEEE Computer Society. “At IEEE CS we remain committed to supporting achievements of young computer science scholars, and we look forward to expanding our CCF-IEEE CS partnership for future opportunities in China.”

Founded in 1962, CCF is a nongovernmental academic society in China focused on computer science and its related fields. CCF has 11 working committees, 35 technical committees, and 13 varieties of publications. It has more than 20,000 members. CCF is now a sister society association partner of IEEE-CS and a strategic partner of ACM.

CNCC 2016 was held in Taiyuan, Shanxi province from October 20-22, 2016. The theme of CNCC 2016 was “Computing Changes the Future.”

CNCC, founded by CCF in 2003, is an annual congress in computing. Over the past 13 years it has become the largest and most influential event in China, with over 4,000 participants in 2015 and over 5,000 participants in 2016. The congress includes keynote presentations from all over the world, along with forums, events, exhibitions, and a prestigious awarding ceremony.
