CLOSED: Special Issue on Quantum Networks

IEEE Internet Computing seeks submissions for this upcoming special issue.

Important Dates

  • Submission Due: 1 October 2025
  • Publication date: March/April 2026

Call for Papers

We invite researchers to contribute to our forthcoming special issue on Quantum Networks. Quantum networks are poised to revolutionize how information is transmitted and secured, enabling capabilities such as quantum key distribution, distributed quantum computing, and ultra-sensitive sensing. As the field moves from theoretical promise to practical realization, there is a growing need for interdisciplinary research that bridges quantum physics, computer science, and network engineering.

This special issue of IEEE Internet Computing will spotlight advances in the design, implementation, and application of quantum networks. We invite submissions that explore theoretical models, systems architectures, network protocols, software platforms, and practical deployments that contribute to the development of scalable and interoperable quantum network infrastructures.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Quantum Communication: Protocol Design and Algorithmic Advances
  • Quantum Cryptography for Secure Networked Infrastructures
  • Quantum Key Distribution: Protocols, Implementation, and Integration
  • Design Challenges and Protocol Solutions for the Quantum Internet
  • Management, Control, and Orchestration in Quantum Networks
  • Simulation Frameworks and Testbeds for Quantum Network Research
  • Real-World Applications and Use Cases of Quantum Networking
  • Error Correction Techniques in Quantum Networked Systems
  • Performance Modeling and Optimization of Quantum Network Protocols
  • Innovative Hardware Platforms Enabling Quantum Networking
  • Collaborative and Distributed Quantum Computing Across Networked Nodes

Submission Guidelines

For author information and guidelines on submission criteria, visit the Author’s Information page. Please submit papers through the IEEE Author Portal and be sure to select the special issue or special section name. Manuscripts should not be published or currently submitted for publication elsewhere. Please submit only full papers intended for review, not abstracts. If requested, abstracts should be sent by email to the guest editors directly.

In addition to submitting your paper to IEEE Internet Computing, you are also encouraged to upload the data related to your paper to IEEE DataPort. IEEE DataPort is IEEE's data platform that supports the storage and publishing of datasets while also providing access to thousands of research datasets. Uploading your dataset to IEEE DataPort will strengthen your paper and will support research reproducibility. Your paper and the dataset can be linked, providing a good opportunity for you to increase the number of citations you receive. Data can be uploaded to IEEE DataPort prior to submitting your paper or concurrent with the paper submission. Thank you!
