Digital twins are evolving from computational representations of physical and cyber-physical systems into interactive environments that integrate sensing, simulation, visualization, and artificial intelligence. Computer graphics, visualization, and interaction are central to how these complex systems are represented, explored, and understood, enabling users to examine system states, interact with underlying models, and support analysis and decision making.
This special issue focuses on human-AI collaboration in intelligent digital twin environments. We invite contributions exploring how humans and AI can collaboratively analyze system states, generate predictions, explore alternatives, and guide decisions within digital twins ranging from individual devices and robots to laboratories, buildings, factories, infrastructure, transportation networks, healthcare environments, and other complex systems.
Submissions should make a substantive contribution to computer graphics, visualization, visual analytics, interaction, immersive technologies, spatial computing, or another area of visual computing. We welcome original research papers, system papers, practical experience reports, and application papers, particularly those involving real-world deployments, user studies, open platforms, benchmarks, or reproducible workflows. Papers that primarily apply AI within a digital twin without a substantive visual-computing contribution are outside the intended scope of this special issue.
Representative application domains include manufacturing, robotics, healthcare, scientific laboratories, infrastructure, transportation, energy systems, autonomous systems, environmental monitoring, smart cities, and AI-assisted engineering.
In addition to research papers, IEEE CG&A invites Perspective and Overview Paper (POP) submissions related to this theme. POP papers may include surveys, tutorials, state-of-the-art reports, or forward-looking perspectives that synthesize knowledge or explore emerging aspects of the CFP theme.
