Lance Stafford Larson Student Award

Important Dates

1 October - 31 October Every Year

Apply for this Award

Best Student Paper Contest

The Lance Stafford Larson Award was established in 1983 by the Larson family in memorial for their son, who died in an electrical accident while an undergraduate at the University of Maryland. The Larson family, which includes IEEE Past President Robert Larson, created this award to encourage students to develop excellence in their communication skills and to motivate students toward achievement in the field of Computer Science.

One award of $500 is awarded each year to the first-place winner in the undergraduate and graduate categories. First, second, and third-place winners will receive a certificate of commendation. In the case of multiple authors, the prize is divided among all student authors.

Eligibility

All IEEE undergraduate and graduate student members.

Criteria

Papers (of no more than 20 pages) concerning computer-related subjects that are presented at a computer-related conference or publication are eligible. Papers are judged on technical content, writing skills, and overall presentation. The project should primarily be the work of the student or students, not that of a team composed of professionals with the support of students.

Application

Complete the application form, along with a PDF file of the entry. If multiple authors describe the specific contributions of each student applying for the award.
