2025 Awards and Achievements in Parallel Processing

The Role of TCPP in Advancing

Parallel Processing

The Technical Community on Parallel Processing (TCPP) serves as a global platform dedicated to advancing research and education in parallel processing while also contributing to the development of technical standards in the field. It focuses on a range of topics related to the design, analysis, and implementation of parallel systems and solutions. This includes the design and analysis of parallel architectures, algorithms, and the development of applications for parallel computing environments.

TCPP Activities and Flagship Events

TCPP organizes professional conferences, publishes research, establishes educational program guidelines, and fosters collaboration between academia, funding organizations, and industry stakeholders. Its flagship event is the IEEE International Parallel and Distributed Processing Symposium (IPDPS), held annually in the spring. Additionally, TCPP sponsors several other conferences, such as HiPC, IEEE PerCom, and DS-RT, which explore interdisciplinary topics within the realm of parallel processing.

Recognizing Excellence: TCPP Awards

At the occasion of the IPDPS conference, TCPP grants multiple awards, among which are the Outstanding Service and Contributions Award and the Award for Excellence in Parallel and Distributed Computing Education.

  1. Outstanding Service and Contributions Award: Recognizes individuals in the broader community who have made major professional service contributions to the parallel, distributed, and high-performance computing community. This year, the award is granted to David Keyes for his contributions to expanding the computational science and engineering community through the engagement of students and early career scientists, establishment of advanced computing centers, and impactful leadership and administrative roles on an international scale, and to Devesh Tiwari for his exemplary commitment to service roles and community building, particularly in the context of the TCPP sponsored conferences.
  2. Award for Excellence in Parallel and Distributed Computing Education: Recognizes individuals annually who have made outstanding, influential, and potentially long-lasting contributions to the field of parallel and distributed computing (PDC) education. This year, it has been granted to Alan Edelman for innovative programming language design for HPC with Julia used in influential courses, impacting academia and industry.
  3. Special Award: This year, a special award has been created to recognize the exceptional contribution of Sally Westron during decades of service in IPDPS.

Celebrating the Awardees

We warmly congratulate the awardees, and we thank them once again for their exceptional contributions, which have been recognized and praised this year. May their example lead us in our work and inspire the community to grow and continue advancing the field of computer science.
