We've enjoyed each month in 2021 as we celebrated our special anniversary year with our members, marking the 75th Anniversary of the Computer Society.
Commemorating this momentous milestone, a slate of exciting and interactive activities took place throughout 2021. These activities integrated the rich history of the Computer Society and highlighted the accomplishments of its members and the innovations they help to create, with the vision and resources that will inspire the future.
Student members from around the world gathered during IEEE Day to wish the Computer Society a Happy Anniversary!

Highlights of the CS Celebrations included:
A community test of Computer Society knowledge! The Computer Society’s year-long trivia contest spotlighted interesting facts and trivia of the Computer Society and the computing field.
Congratulations to our grand prize Trivia Contest Winner, Nayza Thasneem!
Congratulations to Martin Greenstein for his Winning Entry, “It Is Who We Are”
In honor of the IEEE Computer Society’s 75th Anniversary, members were challenged to submit a short essay that delves into the impact technology has had on society by answering the following questions: In what direction are these technologies leading? What does the future have in store for us?
We are pleased to announce Martin Greenstein is the winner of the IEEE Computer Society Essay Contest for his entry, “It Is Who We Are.” As the winner of the essay content, Martin will receive a cash prize of $1,000 in addition to having his essay shared with IEEE Computer Society members on social media and newsletter.
We thank all of our members who put their thought to pen and submitted essays on what the future and technology have in store for society.
In 2021, November's webinars were dedicated to celebrating history at the Computer Society. As part of our distinguished lecturer webinar series, we scheduled numerous webinars to give us the historical context of today's hot topics. Take advantage of these webinars to ask questions, interact with thought leaders in the industry, and learn about the rich history of computing. On-demand access will be available for each webinar for a limited time only.
Winners announced! The Global Student Challenge provided a platform for students from all over the world to create innovative solutions to big data problems. For this year’s competition, each student OR team (max three students) was required to present a solution to a pre-determined problem/issue statement. This year two challenge problems were posed, both on topics of relevance today — one on analyzing sentiments in tweets related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the second on analyzing computer system usage and failure data from a university’s central computing system.
Congratulations to the Global Student Challenge Winners!
