IEEE Publications Serve as Accessible Industry Standard for Authors

By IEEE Computer Society Team on
October 31, 2025

PublicationsLOS ALAMITOS, Calif., 31 October 2025 – Consistently exhibiting top impact factor and Google scholar rankings, IEEE publications set the standard of excellence for scientists and engineers working in diverse disciplines around the world. By issuing journals that represent the full spectrum of engineering disciplines, IEEE creates an inclusive publishing platform for the global research community.

“IEEE publications provide highly competitive, prestigious publishing opportunities for every field of engineering,” said Grace A. Lewis, 2025 IEEE Computer Society (CS) President-Elect and 2026 President and principal researcher, Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute (SEI). “Authors benefit both from widespread visibility and global collaboration opportunities when they publish with IEEE.”

But in addition to the recognition they receive when publishing in an IEEE journal, authors also may choose from a wide array of ways to publish, from traditional journals to fully open access opportunities. With IEEE’s goal of supporting all authors and readers globally, the organization seeks to offer any author a publication opportunity that is compliant with their circumstances, regardless of their funding status, the publishing mandates they may have in place, or where in the world they may work.

The Computer Society is fully aligned with IEEE’s approach to Open Access.

“Published results enable the evolution of the field by spurring new ideas,” said Lewis. “Within the IEEE Computer Society, we want to continue to fuel the advancement of science and engineering by providing access to the latest findings, and we do so by offering a wide variety of publication opportunities. It’s why IEEE and Computer Society journals consistently rank as the preferred options for authors in the field.”

To that end, in addition to traditional publishing options, IEEE continues to support open science and provides more options and choices to support the work and needs of all authors and researchers, including:

  • IEEE Access – A highly-cited multidisciplinary fully open access journal that has published over 100,000 articles to date.
  • IEEE Open Journal of the Computer Society - A fully open access journal focused on the latest emerging topics and trends in all aspects of computing.
  • Fully Open Access Topical Journals – A fast-growing collection in a wide range of technologies–over 30 titles in all.
  • Hybrid Journals – Over 180 top-cited journals and magazines spanning an array of technology fields, all offering open access options.
