Diomidis Spinellis
Diomidis Spinellis is a member of the IEEE Software editorial board and has been writing its "Tools of the Trade" column since 2005. He has also guest-edited three issues for IEEE Software and one for IEEE Intelligent Systems. He is a professor in the Department of Management Science and Technology at the Athens University of Economics and Business. In 2009–2011, he served as the Secretary General for Information Systems at the Greek Ministry of Finance.

Spinellis is the author of many open source software packages, libraries, and tools. He has written the UMLGraph declarative UML drawing engine, the CScout C-language refactoring editor, and also systems code that ships with Mac OS X and BSD Unix. Spinellis has published 200 technical papers in journals and refereed conference proceedings, which have received more than 1,500 citations. He received a PhD in computer science from Imperial College London. Spinellis is a senior member of the ACM and IEEE. He has won two Software Development Productivity Awards for his widely translated books Code Reading: The Open Source Perspective (Addison-Wesley Professional, 2003) and Code Quality: The Open Source Perspective (Addison-Wesley Professional, 2006).
