Board of Governors (2013-2015)
Phillip Laplante, Professional Engineer, is a professor of software engineering and an affiliate professor of information sciences and technology at Pennsylvania State University. His research areas are software testing and requirements engineering. Before his academic career, he worked several years as a software engineer and project manager.
Laplante has authored or edited 28 books and has published more than 200 papers; he also chairs the committee that developed the examination to license Professional Engineers in the US. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for a medium-sized highway infrastructure company and has served on the advisory boards for several high technology start-ups.
Laplante has been an IEEE member for more than 25 years and has served as a volunteer for more than 20 years. He has served on or chaired many IEEE and Computer Society committees pertaining to publications, digital libraries, continuing education, and finance. He previously served as a member of the CS Board of Governors.
Laplante received a PhD in computer science from Stevens Institute of Technology and an MBA from the University of Colorado. He is a Fellow of IEEE and SPIE. A licensed Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, he is also a Certified Software Development Professional.
