Reference Page for New TC/TF Chair
Congratulations on being elected as Chair, Vice Chair or Chair-Elect of your Technical Committee, Council, or Task Force! We hope this reference page will assist you in your transition into new responsibilities. If at any time you need information that you cannot obtain at this Web site, please feel free to contact Carrie Clark Walsh, the Sr. Program Specialist, for immediate assistance.
New chair orientation
This resource was compiled by other Technical and Conference Activities Board (T&C Board) volunteers to give a brief overview of your role as a TC/TF Chair and to assist with frequently asked questions. The last four slides provide an overview of the working relationship between T&C, TCs, and CS in terms of sponsored conferences, governance, and some of related organizations.
T&C Board Handbook
This handbook was developed to keep all your Computer Society reference information in one place. You are encouraged to browse through it now and then refer back to it whenever you have questions.
These rules, governing the Society and all its operations, are required reading for all CS leadership. These documents will also be included in your orientation package.
Computer Society Membership Applications
Only Computer Society members can receive TC newsletters and vote in elections. It is important for chairs to encourage their TC members to become Computer Society members as well. Click here to join.
TC Membership Applications
Members (and nonmembers) can join a TC by clicking Join a Technical Committee on the right-hand navigation panel or by clicking here (JOIN links featured in left-hand column).
Technical Meeting Handbook
The Computer Society wants to help you have the best meetings to help advance the state of the art in the computer field. Organizing outstanding meetings takes the effort of willing volunteers. This handbook provides both advice and policy procedures for running successful conferences.
The Computer Society Volunteer Directory lists the names and contact information for CS leadership on committees and boards. A new directory is published and mailed annually in May/June.
The Computer Society offers the ability to host your TC Web site on the CS Web servers. You will need to request access and your community name. Once these have been accomplished, you should review Liferay training slides on creating and modifying content on your site.
From time to time you may need to submit an expense Reimbursement Request Form (see portlet at bottom, center of page). If you are unsure as to whether an expense is reimbursable, please contact the Sr. Governance Budget Analyst before incurring the expense.
Student Travel Awards
Occasionally you may want to grant student travel awards to various conferences. Please send the information (including the award amount and list of names - including email addresses for each) directly to Maggie Johnson, the Sr. Governance Budget Analyst.
If you require additional assistance, please feel free to contact Carrie Clark Walsh, the Sr. Program Specialist (phone: +1 714 816 2118).
