CEDA Takes Ownership of IEEE D&T Magazine

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., 5 July, 2011 – The IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation is taking over ownership of IEEE Design & Test of Computers from the IEEE Computer Society.

An agreement transferring ownership of the magazine was signed on 25 June by 2011 IEEE Computer Society President Sorel Reisman and Andreas Kuehlmann, president of IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation (CEDA). The ownership change is effective on 1 January 2012.

“Over the past decade, the IEEE members who form the D&T community have congregated around CEDA. Hence, it makes sense to get the periodical into the hands of the organization that is most interested in its future,” said David Alan Grier, IEEE Computer Society vice president, Publications. “We think that this move is right for both CEDA and D&T.”

The volunteers and staff of both organizations have been working together since last fall to formulate an agreement that would allow CEDA to own a well-established magazine targeted to the design and test communities.

"We are excited to take over this high-quality magazine. We are planning to join forces with two of our member societies, the Circuits and Systems Society (CASS) and the Solid-State Circuits Society (SSCS) as well as the Test Technology Technical Council (TTTC) to further strengthen this publication," said Kuehlmann.

Published since 1984 by the IEEE Computer Society (and co-published with CASS since 2002), D&T has a loyal subscriber base. Transferring the magazine to CEDA will provide additional resources to promote the magazine to a wider audience.

D&T covers the tools, techniques, and concepts used to design and test electronic product hardware and supportive software. The magazine is a leader in analysis of current and near-future practice.

"At the junction of the design, test, and electronic design automation communities, D&T is in a unique position to create a broad-based community of researchers and practitioners in microelectronic and embedded systems on chip,” said Rajesh Gupta, CEDA vice president of Publications. “D&T compliments our existing portfolio of publications, consisting of IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design and IEEE Embedded Systems Letters to provide a comprehensive benefit to our community by bringing not only the latest advances in theory and practice but also the personalities and their views shaping our industry and profession.”

As part of the agreement, D&T issues produced by CEDA will be available in the Computer Society Digital Library through 2014.

About the IEEE Computer Society

With nearly 85,000 members, the IEEE Computer Society is the world’s leading organization of computing professionals. Founded in 1946, and the largest of the IEEE’s 38, the Computer Society is dedicated to advancing the theory and application of computer and information-processing technology, and is known globally for its computing standards activities. About the IEEE Council on EDA

The IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation (CEDA) provides a focal point for EDA activities spread across six IEEE societies (Antennas and Propagation; Circuits and Systems; Computer; Electron Devices; Microwave Theory and Techniques; and Solid State Circuits). It sponsors more than 12 conferences, including the Design Automation Conference (DAC), International Conference in CAD (ICCAD) and Design Automation and Test in Europe (DATE). CEDA publishes IEEE Transactions on CAD and the IEEE Embedded Systems Letters. CEDA is increasingly involved in recognizing its leaders via the A. Richard Newton Award, Early Career Award and Phil Kaufmann Award. CEDA welcomes volunteers and local chapters. For more information, go to: http://www.c-eda.org.
