Computer Society and UT Launch Fast-Track Training for CSDP Exam
LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., 13 May, 2010 – The IEEE Computer Society and its registered education partner United Training have developed a new and easier distance-learning format to help students prepare for the Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP) exam.
The Fast-Track Training CSDP preparation sessions will let students take advantage of top-caliber CSDP trainers without leaving their offices. Furthermore, the three-day courses will enable employers and test-takers to avoid paying for travel costs or extended time off of work. The first Fast-Track Training class is scheduled for 28-30 June. To register or view the course outline, visit http://www.unitedtraining.com/CourseInfo/Outlines.aspx?CourseNumber=csdp.
"The launch of the Fast-Track Training distance-learning option provides our CSDP candidates with a very cost-effective way to prepare for the exam. This fits in with the trend of employers looking for ways to reduce their training and travel budgets and is a win-win for all," said Chris Ruoff, Senior Manager of Business and Product Development for the IEEE Computer Society’s Certification and Training Programs.
“We are thrilled to leverage today’s modalities of learning to have the ability to reach and prepare more potential candidates on the CSDP certification," said Christopher Roy, president of United Training. "Not only will the students have a great experience but they will save a great deal of time and travel expenses.”
Geared toward mid-career professionals, the CSDP certification demonstrates an individual’s proficiency of the knowledge required of an experienced software development professional. More and more professionals have taken the CSDP to demonstrate their knowledge and advance in their careers. Employers are recognizing the value in standardizing their software development practices through certifications like the CSDP.
The CSDP preparation course covers the 15 CSDP knowledge areas (KAs) and a sample examination. In preparation for the Fast-Track Training course, students will have access to the CSDP online e-learning course for six months. Together, the e-learning and instructor-led courses will help a student identify their strengths and weaknesses within the 15 CSDP KAs in preparation for the exam. The voucher included with the course lets the student schedule his or her examination appointment at any Prometric test center.
The preparation course is US $1,295 for nonmembers and $1,195 for IEEE members. The cost includes the Fast-Track distance-learning course, the CSDP e-learning course, the Guide to the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBOK), and a voucher to sit for the CSDP exam. Participation instructions, live question-and-answer session, a live demonstration, and troubleshooting and support will also be provided.
To take the CSDP exam, individuals must have a bachelor’s degree, be a CSDA certificate holder, an educator at the post- baccalaureate level, or a full member of IEEE. In addition, four years of software engineering experience or an advanced degree and two years of software engineering experience are required.
Students can participate in the Fast-Track Training via LiveMeeting, Skype, or a call-in number while an in-person preparation class is being held. They will be able to view instructor activities on their computers and whiteboards, and hear the instructor’s presentation and student conversations in the classroom.
