Mission, Vision, and Goals for the IEEE Computer Society

Mission

The purposes of the Society shall be scientific, literary, and educational in character. The Society shall strive to advance the theory, practice, and application of computer and information processing science and technology and shall maintain a high professional standard among its members. The Society shall promote cooperation and exchange of technical information among its members, and to this end, shall hold meetings for the presentation and discussion of technical papers, shall publish technical journals, and shall, through its organization and other appropriate means, provide for the needs of its members.

To be the leading provider of technical information, community services, and personalized services to the world’s computing professionals

SP6 Big Audacious Goal

Be essential to the global technical community and computer professionals everywhere and be universally recognized for the contributions of technical professionals in developing and applying technology to improve global conditions.

 

Short Term Strategic Goals

SP-6/S Goal 1. Industry professionals and their employers will value the IEEE CS as a major resource for achieving success. The society will foster this perception through identifying practitioner-focused activities, products, or services.

SP-6/S Goal 2. The IEEE CS will improve the professional competencies of students and practitioners through education and evaluation programs valued by employers and professionals.

SP-6/S Goal 3. The IEEE CS will provide a global forum for the world’s computing professionals provided through online personalized access to expertise, products, and services.

SP-6/S Goal 4. The IEEE CS should identify, document, and foster interoperability among stakeholders both within and outside the society.

SP-6/S Goal 5. The IEEE CS will focus on controlled planning and internal restructuring; it will make measurable improvements so as to advance the society and reposition it for growth and renewal.

SP-6/S Goal 6. Each activity, product, or service, newly proposed or already engaged, should target a clearly identified and delineated community. In addition, prior to approval, the proposal should describe all planning activities, expected returns on investment (ROI), and measures of success.

 

Long Term Strategic Goals

SP-6/L Goal 1. The IEEE CS will establish a relationship (comprising a contact channel with individual opt-in) with every relevant professional in the world.

SP-6/L Goal 2. The IEEE CS will implement a program for ongoing contact with our global professional community that facilitates participation without annoyance.

SP-6/L Goal 3. The IEEE CS will develop personalized profiles of participating professionals, presenting them with the most relevant information, communities, networking opportunities, information exchanges, and materials.

SP-6/L Goal 4. The IEEE CS will develop a transparent advertising business model that provides alternate revenue streams for the IEEE CS.

SP-6/L Goal 5. The IEEE CS will expand and leverage our IEEE relationship.
