Merlin G. Smith is the System Applications program manager for thk Advanced Silicon Technoloev Organization at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Laboratory, Yorktown Heights, New York. He has been active in the IEEE Computer Society since the 196Os, serving in many capacities, including the office of president in 1977 and 1978.

Smith received his BSEE degree from the University of Cincinnatiin 19SOandhisMSEE degree from Columbia University in 1957. He has been a member of IEEE since 1946 and is a fellow of the IEEE.
