Member Visit Program (MVP)
The IEEE Computer Society is starting a new program to help its chapters get speakers. This new program is called the Member Visit Program (MVP). The MVP connects traveling members with local Chapters.
The MVP takes advantage of the speaker’s own professional or non-professional travel. IEEE members, especially Fellows and Senior Members, are already leaders in their field. Many possess excellent presentation skills or have interesting presentations ready to go and would welcome an opportunity to share their expertise. These presentations make excellent lectures/talks/seminars/workshops/tutorials for Chapters. In fact, some Chapters are already doing this on an ad-hoc basis. The MVP intends on making this a widespread practice around the world.
The Program
If you would like to participate as a speaker, and you know that you will be traveling in the near future, please visit our MVP speaker info site.
If you are a chapter and would like to contact a speaker who may be coming to your area, see our list of current speaker schedules.
Incentive for the Speaker
For each MVP talk/event done by a speaker, the speaker will receive, as incentive, a 25% discount in their Computer Society membership at the next year renewal. This means that if a speaker does four MVP talks/events in a year that their next year's CS membership will come free.
Chapter Responsibilities
Individual Chapters need to make themselves inviting places to present and look out for desirable speakers.
The chapter will need to take care of local travel and hospitality for the speaker beyond his/her self-paid travel. Frequently this is a small expense, compared to the benefit of getting a reputable speaker.
- Keep officer contact info up to date. Officer reports go to sec-chap-support@ieee.org and update your personal info through MyIEEE or the IEEE telephone numbers +1 800 678 4333 (USA and Canada) or +1 732 981 0060 (Worldwide). This will make it easy to connect a potential MVP speaker to the chapter.
