Two More IEEE Computer Society Journals Available in New OnlinePlus™ Format

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., 23 December, 2012 – Two more IEEE Computer Society research journals will be available in OnlinePlus™ format in 2012.

IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing(TMC) (US$33) is a monthly scholarly journal that publishes the latest mobile-research developments, and IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems (TPDS) ($32) is a monthly journal covering new research in parallel and distributed computing. They are the fourth and fifth Computer Society journals to be made available in the new format.

The monthly IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (TVCG) (US$39) and IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (TPAMI) ($50) and quarterly IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing (TDSC) ($30) were migrated to OnlinePlus in 2011. Subscribers may choose OnlinePlus or print for TPAMI.

David Alan Grier, 2012 Computer Society president-elect and former vice president of Publications, said the editorial boards of TMC and TPDS were eager for the journals to be available in a primarily online format because most industry research takes place online. Eventually, all currently printed IEEE Computer Society journals will be provided in OnlinePlus format.

“From what we can see and understand, researchers are using electronic versions of these articles,” Grier said. “We’re going to continue to look for new means of getting that material into the hands of researchers so they can advance the field and advance the community in which we live. We’re very pleased to see these new journals joining the OnlinePlus program.”

A hybrid of online-only and print, OnlinePlus gives subscribers the best of both worlds—online access plus a printed book of article abstracts and a searchable interactive disk.

OnlinePlus provides subscribers with journal content in three different formats, and at a lower price than traditional print. In addition to quicker publishing of cutting-edge research, the new format reduces your carbon footprint, in keeping with IEEE’s Green Initiative.

OnlinePlus subscribers who want print copies for their research libraries can order them via print on demand. And both members and nonmembers can order print copies from the issue’s table of contents by clicking on the “Order Print Issue” link in the “This Publication” box on the right-hand side and following the ordering instructions.
