Reviewers Sought for New SWEBOK Guide Knowledge Areas

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., 27 August 2012 – The IEEE Computer Society is seeking public review comments for the Software Design, Software Engineering Management, and Software Engineering Professional Practice knowledge areas of Version 3 of the Guide to the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge.

SWEBOK V3 is an update to the 2004 version of the SWEBOK Guide, which spells out components of software engineering, to promote a consistent view of the discipline. Software practitioners worldwide participate in the Guide's development to ensure that it captures established traditional practices recommended by many organizations. The SWEBOK Guide uses a rigorous process that includes successive levels of review.

To view the latest knowledge areas and submit comments, visit computer.centraldesktop.com/swebokv3review/. The deadline is 28 September.

The review has already been completed for six of the other knowledge areas—Computing Foundations, Mathematical Foundations, Software Configuration Management, Software Construction, Software Engineering Models and Methods, and Software Maintenance.

Present and potential reviewers will be notified when additional areas become available for review. Each knowledge area, when posted, will be available for review for 30 calendar days from the date of posting.

The IEEE Computer Society's two software development certifications—the Certified Software Development Associate (CSDA) for entry-level developers and the Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP) credential for mid-career professionals are both based on the SWEBOK Guide. Most IEEE Computer Society training materials and curriculum development also use the SWEBOK Guide as a foundation.
