Its Knowledge Areas (KAs) summarize basic concepts and include a reference list pointing to more detailed information. The SWEBOK Guide is used world-wide as the basis for software engineering curricula and is followed in industry by both corporations and practitioners. The 2004 Guide gained international recognition as ISO Technical Report 19759, and in 2011 the Guide is being updated as Version 3.
