2005 Hans Karlsson Award
"For outstanding leadership, communications, and achievement with the IEEE Testability Method for Embedded Core-based IC's standard (IEEE Std.1500TM – 2005) through collaboration with major industry groups"
Yervant Zorian is the Vice President and Chief Scientist of Virage Logic Corporation. He received a Masters Degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from McGill University in Montreal in 1987. Upon his graduation, he joined the Test Technology Center of Excellence of AT&T Bell Laboratories in Princeton, New Jersey. In 1992, he was promoted to Distinguished Member of Technical Staff and assumed positions of broader responsibility in Bell Labs. In 1996, he became the Chief Technology Advisor of LogicVision Inc, in San Jose, California, and in 2000, he joined the executive team of Virage Logic Corporation assuming his current position. While in Silicon Valley, he continues to support several privately held start-ups and publicly traded companies by serving on their Board of Directors and Technical Advisory Boards. Since 2003, Zorian is also an adjunct professor at the University of British Columbia. Zorian's seminal work has helped shape the semiconductor industry. As a technical leader and later a successful executive, he made long term contributions to built-in selftest (BIST) and repair solutions and design tools and methodologies to implement them in complex systems. His nine years at Bell Labs are associated with successful research and development of BIST solutions and their penetration into world's most complex networking, communications, and consumer products. The dramatic economic impact of incorporating this methodology into chips, boards and systems have been clearly observed. Numerous companies followed the same path making this technology a must for complex systems.
