Atlanta, Georgia, USA - June 10-14, 2016

Connected World: New Challenges for Data, Systems & Applications

IEEE COMPSAC 2016 Big Data Analytics and Visualization Competition

Call for Participants

Data Science is all about the processes and methods to access and analyze data to gain insights for informed decision making. To promote the awareness and analytic technology of Big Data, the IEEE Big Data Initiative is organizing a Data Analytics Competition. The competition will be held during COMPSAC 2016 and is open to all participants of the conference.

The IEEE's Big Data Initiative (BDI) aims to promote discussions on the topic; lead and coordinate related activities. To this end, the IEEE Big Data web portal has been used to promote this initiative by annoucning events, related news and providing references to relevant outlets. The committee has been tracking the web site usage for the last 2 years. Specifically, the following usage information has been recorded:

Keywords: Online searches that led to the website. Dataset

Devices: Devices used to access the website. Dataset

Region: The origin of the website visits. Dataset

In all datasets, each column shows the numbers for a period of one week and column names reflect the year and the week number 'yyyyww'.

The Senior Director of the IEEE Big Data Initiative likes to study their web portal usage to understand the audience of the initiative and potentially improve the management and services of the website. What insights can you provide by analyzing the datasets above? Your insights and suggestions are expected to be creative.

Participation is open to conference attendees only. To participate, sign up by June 6 by sending an email to Kathy Grise, Yegin Genc and Christopher Franzino. You may participate individually or as part of a team.

Evaluation and Awards
You are expected to present your findings to a judging panel of practitioners. Presentations will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Clarity and Relevance of Analysis
  • Methodology
  • Creative use of data
  • Significance of findings
  • Delivery of findings

Two awards will be given out: 1) winning student or student team; 2) winning professional or professional team. A judging panel of practitioners will evaluate presentations. Each award is $1,000.
