2022 Diversity & Inclusion Projects Announced
The IEEE Computer Society Diversity & Inclusion Committee seeks proposals for projects, programs, and events that further its mission to positively impact diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the computing community. These activities might include, but are not limited to, solution-oriented panel discussions addressing issues related to diversity in the computing workforce, webinars on important technical contributions representing underserved groups in our profession, and mentoring programs for early-career individuals.
In celebration of its 75th Anniversary, the IEEE CS Diversity & Inclusion Fund was formed and ultimately seeded with a $100k contribution from the Computer Society.
“The 75th anniversary has provided a great opportunity to not only reflect on our past, but to the future of the Computer Society,” said IEEE Computer Society President Forrest Shull. “We’re committed to taking steps now to impact the way the organization grows and serves its increasingly diverse member community.”
These projects will create programs and activities that will help women, Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), people with disabilities, and individuals from underserved groups. A few of our ideas include partnering with local STEM organizations serving their community, tools, and features for accessibility, and solving unique issues for those in remote regions. What are your ideas for bringing equity, diversity, and inclusion to your region?
Proposals are now closed. The inaugural cohort of accepted proposals for projects and programs has been announced. Visit the dedicated IEEE Computer Society Diversity & Inclusion to learn more about the fund, how to donate, and the five programs/projects you’ll be seeing more of in 2022.
About IEEE Computer Society Diversity & Inclusion Committee
In 2020, former IEEE Computer Society President, Leila De Floriani, established the IEEE Computer Society Diversity & Inclusion Committee. Diversity and inclusion are central to the goals of the IEEE Computer Society and all of its activities. Equity, at its heart, is about dismantling barriers, biases, and obstacles that impede equal access and opportunity to success
“There is so much work being done by Computer Society volunteers to support D&I and we are looking forward to learning how we can help amplify and scale those activities to benefit even more people.” – IEEE Computer Society 2020 President, Leila De Floriani.
