Call for Participation: IEEE 754™

IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA) invites you to participate in the IEEE Study Group on Additional Floating-Point Formats to Support Machine.

Why Get Involved?

The purpose of the IEEE Study Group on Additional Floating-Point Formats to Support Machine Learning is to expand and update IEEE 754-2008™ – Standard for Floating-Point Arithmetic. This standard provides a method for computation with floating-point numbers that will yield the same result whether the processing is done in hardware, software, or a combination of the two. The results of the computation will be identical, independent of implementation, given the same input data. Errors and error conditions in the mathematical processing will be reported in a consistent manner regardless of implementation.

Meeting Information:

Recurring virtual meetings will be held from 12:00 – 1:00 PM ET on the fourth Monday of each month starting Monday, 26 April 2021.

Call for Participation: IEEE P982.1™

IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA) invites you to participate in the working group for IEEE P982.1™ – Standard for Measures of the Software Aspects of Dependability.

Why Get Involved:

this standard identifies, classifies, and defines measures of the software aspects of dependability. As such, it provides a framework for acquirers and developers of software-reliant systems and services to (1) understand the software aspects of dependability and (2) develop and apply measures to continually assess and verify dependability throughout the life cycle.
This standard is applicable to any software system or service. It particularly targets critical systems for which reliability, maintainability, availability, security, trustworthiness, confidentiality, integrity, survivability, and, in some operational contexts, safety, usability, and privacy are essential characteristics. Examples of critical systems include those supplying communications infrastructure, emergency services, energy production and management, financial analysis and management, health care (medical and administrative services), defense capabilities, personal and mass transportation services, environmental monitoring, and water and waste management.
How to Participate: 
  1. Log in to the myProject system to indicate interest in following or participating in this effort.
    • Note: An IEEE SA account is needed to access the system – just click on ‘Create Account’ if you do not already have one.
  2. Click on the ‘Menu’ icon at the top of the page and go to the ‘Manage Profile and Interests’ page.
  3. Click on the ‘Interests’ tab, click on the ‘Add Groups’ and search for ‘982.1.’ Click on the button in the ‘Groups I am Interested In’ column to indicate interest in the group.
  4. Indicate whether you want to follow or participate in the activity and declare your affiliation.



Call for Participation: IEEE P2989™
 IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA) invites you to participate in the working group for IEEE P2989™ – Standard for Authentication in a Multi-Server Environment.

Why Get Involved:

User authentication is an integral function of any e-service, especially in internet banking and e-commerce. Such authentication is traditionally done using a user name and password and is called single-factor authentication. This conventional single-factor authentication is not considered strong in cases of financial transaction websites, thus requiring strong multi-factor authentication schemes.

The purpose of this standard is to design an authentication system for a multi-server environment where multiple service providers are offering their services on their respective servers after authenticating the users at their servers. The system allows the user to register to a registration center server and access the services of other service providers using a single registered credential and without exclusively registering to each individual service provider. The service-providing servers in the multi-server environment are assumed to have a service level agreement (SLA) with the registration center server.

How to Participate: 

The standard describes an authentication scheme including the following features:

  1. User needs single unique login credentials to log into a Multi-Server setup
  2. It offers a two-factor authentication scheme comprising of password as one and the soft token/hardware token as the second factor for authentication
  3. The scheme does not require a password table to be maintained at the server
  4. The scheme resists various known authentication-related attacks

Call for Participation: IEEE P1450™

IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA) invites you to participate in the working group that will reaffirm IEEE P1450™ – Standard Test Interface Language (STIL) for Digital Test Vector Data.

Why Get Involved:

Originally published in 1999, this standard addresses a need in the integrated circuit (IC) test industry to define a standard mechanism for transferring the large volumes of digital test data from the generation environment through to test.

This standard defines a test description language that:

  • Facilitates the transfer of large volumes of digital test vector data from computer-aided engineering (CAE) environments to automated test equipment (ATE) environments;
  • Specifies pattern, format, and timing information sufficient to define the application of digital test vectors to a device under test (DUT);
  • Supports the volume of test vector data generated from structured tests such as scan/automatic test pattern generation (ATPG), integral test techniques such as built-in self-test (BIST), and functional test specifications for IC designs and their assemblies, in a format optimized for application in ATE environments.

2021 IEEE SERVICES Call For Papers

The 2021 IEEE World Congress on Services will be held as an all-online virtual event. The Congress is solely sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society under the auspice of the Technical Committee on Services Computing (TCSVC). The scope of the Congress will cover all aspects of services computing and applications, current or emerging. Centered around services computing, it covers various systems and networking research pertaining to cloud, edge and Internet-of-Things (IoT), as well as technologies for intelligent computing, learning, Big Data and blockchain applications, addressing critical issues such as knowledge network, high performance, security, privacy, dependability, trustworthiness, and cost-effectiveness. Particularly, 2021 Congress will welcome papers on the impact of COVID-19 on services and corresponding infrastructure. In addition to co-located theme-topic conferences, the Congress will also include symposia and workshops supporting deep-dive discussions on emerging important topics, and complement the Congress program with industry and application presentations and panels. Authors are invited to prepare early and submit original papers to any of these conferences at www.easychair.org. All submitted manuscripts will be peer-reviewed by at least three reviewers. Accepted and presented papers will appear in the conference proceedings published by the IEEE Computer Society Press.

IEEE Computer Society Annual Symposium on VLSI July 7-9, 2021 Call for Papers

The 2021 Symposium explores emerging trends and novel ideas and concepts covering a broad range of topics in the area of VLSI: from VLSI circuits, systems and design methods, to system level design issues, to bringing VLSI design to new areas and technologies such as nano- and molecular devices, security, artificial intelligence, and Internet-of-Things, etc. Future design methodologies and new EDA tools are also a key topic at the Symposium. Over three decades the Symposium has been a unique forum promoting multidisciplinary research and new visionary approaches in the area of VLSI, bringing together leading scientists and researchers from academia and industry. The ISVLSI proceedings will be indexed in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library. Selected high quality papers will be further invited for submission to a journal special issue. The Symposium has established a reputation in bringing together well-known international scientists as invited speakers. The emphasis on high quality will continue at this and future editions of the Symposium.
