Technology to Reduce Container Data Center Power Consumption Developed

Fujitsu Laboratories has developed a power conservation system control technology specifically designed for use in container data centers. The system coordinates both servers’ and air-conditioning systems’ operations. The new control technology enables fan-less servers to be installed in these data centers. Prototype models equipped with the Fujitsu technology reportedly reduced their total energy consumption by as much as 40 percent. Conventional container data centers don’t regulate the air conditioning based on information regarding the servers’ temperature, which has resulted in more power being unnecessarily used for cooling; and there have also been reports of insufficient cooling in these sorts of data centers that make it difficult to use fan-less servers. Fujitsu says it plans to release the technology commercially later this year and will continue testing it under conditions such as varying temperature and humidity. ( @ MarketWatch)
