US Automakers Working on Computer-Driven Windshields

Two US-based automobile manufacturers are reportedly developing a windshield that offers the functions of a smartphone display that enables drivers to keep their eyes on the road. General Motors and Daimler AG are developing an augmented reality windshield able to display information to drivers, such as road conditions. Eye tracking technology exists inside the car while an exterior sensor network relays information such as approaching landmarks and weather reports. The technology, say the automakers, is similar to the heads-up displays found in aircraft that display critical information while in flight. (PhysOrg)(Dayton Daily News)(Wall Street Journal)
