November/December 2012: Technical Debt

The cover features in the November/December 2012 issue of IEEE Software examine technical debt. Multimedia highlights include four interviews with key practitioners on technical debt: Jeromy Carriere, Michael Feathers, Steve McConnell, and Carolyn Seaman. In "Perfectionists in a World of Finite Resources," editor in chief Forrest Shull describes surviving as a software engineer in today's world, while Christof Ebert speaks about "Accruing Technical Debt: Practical Decision-Making and Its Business Relevance."

In addition, author Grady Booch provides an audio recording of his On Computing column, in which he discusses how conflict has shaped computing and how computing has changed the nature of warfare; Requirements column author Neil Maiden talks with Suzanne and James Robertson of the Atlantic Systems Guild about the emergence and impact of agile practices on requirements work; and author Diomidis Spinellis provides an audio recording of his Tools of the Trade column, in which he discusses the choice between using the functionality of the applicationís platform (Java EE or .NET), calling one of several available external libraries, or writing code.
