ABSTRACT
We illustrate some new developments in the three-dimensional (3-D) processing of the image of the Shroud of Turin. After analyzing the various possibilities of obtaining a clean'' two-dimensional (2-D) image, i.e., without noise due to rows and spots, we present the processed image used as a starting point for the three-dimensional processing. Moreover, we describe the mathematical methods used for the processing and show the relief image of the face. This image enhances a number of new details, which were not apparent on the two-dimensional image. To obtain a woundless natural face image of the Man of the Shroud, we processed the previous image suppressing the smaller and attenuating the larger wounds without substantially changing the features. The image shown in this article will probably recall the natural face of Jesus Christ. Also the processing of the body image is shown.
