The IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing (TMC) has completed three years from its inception. In the three years, TMC has established itself as the leading journal in mobile computing. The credit for this success goes in large part to the leadership of the first Editor-in-Chief, Tom La Porta. In collaboration with the editorial board, as well as the excellent publications staff at the IEEE Computer Society, including the Transactions Assistant, Jennifer Carruth, Dr. La Porta has taken the journal from a nascent entity to a forum of choice for publication of research on mobile computing. The TMC editorial board assembled by Dr. La Porta consists of leading researchers whose expertise spans the large range of topics covered by the journal. The editorial board and the transactions staff have performed an excellent job by processing the papers in a timely manner. As a result of the timely and fair review process, the number of high-quality papers submitted to TMC has increased significantly over the past three years. To accommodate the increased number of papers, in 2005, the frequency of publication of TMC will be increased to 6 times a year (from 4 times a year).
I thank the TMC Steering Committee for giving me the opportunity to serve as the next Editor-in-Chief of TMC. I expect that, despite the increasing number of submissions, with appropriate additions to the editorial board, we will be able to continue to complete manuscript reviews within a reasonable amount of time, without compromising on review quality. My sincere thanks to the numerous referees who have helped tremendously by reviewing manuscripts submitted to TMC, and I hope that we can count on their continuing support. I look forward to working with all the contributors to TMC; together we can continue build on the past successes of the IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing.
