Xindong Wu is a professor and chair of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Vermont. He received the PhD degree in artificial intelligence from the University of Edinburgh, Britain. His research interests include data mining, knowledge-based systems, and Web information exploration. He has published extensively in these areas in various journals and conferences, including IEEE TKDE, TPAMI, ACM TOIS, IJCAI, AAAI, ICML, KDD, ICDM, and WWW. He has been an invited/keynote speaker at six international conferences, including the recent 16th IEEE International Conference on Tools with Artificial Intelligence (ICTAI 2004) and the Joint 2004 IEEE/WIC/ACM International Conference on Web Intelligence (WI 2004) and 2004 IEEE/WIC/ACM International Conference on Intelligent Agent Technology (IAT 2004). Dr. Wu is the executive editor (1 January 1999-31 December 2004) and an honorary editor-in-chief (starting 1 January 2005) of Knowledge and Information Systems (a peer-reviewed archival journal published by Springer-Verlag), the founder and current steering committee chair of the IEEE International Conference on Data Mining (ICDM), a series editor of the Springer Book Series on Advanced Information and Knowledge Processing (AI&KP), and the chair of the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Computational Intelligence (TCCI). He served as an associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering between 1 January 2000 and31 December 2003. He is the winner of the 2004 ACM SIGKDD Service Award.
Jeffrey Xu Yu received the BE, ME, and PhD degrees in computer science from the University of Tsukuba, Japan, in 1985, 1987, and 1990, respectively. Dr. Yu was a research fellow in the Institute of Information Sciences and Electronics, University of Tsukuba (April 1990-March 1991), and held teaching positions in the Institute of Information Sciences and Electronics, University of Tsukuba (April 1991-July 1992), and in the Department of Computer Science, Australian National University (July 1992 -June 2000). Currently, he is an associate professor in the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. His major research interests include data mining, data stream mining/processing, XML query processing and optimization, data warehouse, online analytical processing, and design and implementation of database management systems. He served on organization committees and program committees including as a cochair of the program committee of the Sixth Asia Pacific Web Conference (APWeb '04), a cochair of the organization committee of the Fifth International Conference on Optimization: Techniques and Applications (ICOTA '01), a regional coordinator (Far East and Australia) of 2003 Web Information Systems Engineering (WISE '03), and a panel cochair of the 10th International Conference on Database Systems for Advanced Applications (DASFAA '05).
