<p><it>Abstract</it>—This paper defines a new class of unidirectional errors, named <it>t/u</it>-unidirectional errors, which affect at most <it>t</it> bits confined to at most <it>u</it> bytes of the code word. Codes that are capable of detecting, locating and correcting <it>t</it>/1-unidirectional errors are presented. Lower bounds on the number of checkbits required for <it>t</it>/1-unidirectional error detection and location are also presented.</p>
Unidirectional errors, bit and byte errors, error location, error detection and correction, asymmetric errors.
