The congestion control in ATM cell level is one of the important functions in ATM networks. This function has been mainly discussed by the ATM forum. The forum selects the congestion control based on transmission rate as a default control scheme. In particular, EPRCA (Enhanced proportional Rate Control Algorithm) is the most promising candidate for rate base control schemes. However, the control scheme for multi-cast connections has not been discussed actively. This paper proposes a congestion control scheme for multi-cast connections called Timed Congestion Status Update Algorithm. At first, this paper discusses the requirements for this control scheme taking trend of the ATM form activity into consideration. Then, it proposes operations of the control scheme for multi-cast connections.
